FIGHT FOR LEGISLATION AGAINST BIN BAG HUMILIATION FOR KIDS IN CARE-2024-DROP A LINE TO YOUR MP AND TAG BEVOCAL.CO.UK CAMPAIGN
It can no longer be left to charity giving to 54 local authorities luggage items. We need all LAs all over the uk to provided this by law- good moving and robust moving items for all of children's belongings. I moved in card board boxes almost 50 years ago my foster to adopt son eight years ago, in bin liners plastic bags. Yes it really ,really does go on. In the USA they legislate against this traumatic humiliation. We should have done it 40 + years back. Whilst charities have made tremendous efforts-its bigger- we just can't leave it to others-who in effect in almost some 300 authorities in England- have no stated policy or implementation to prevent this
Be part of a platform where your professional care experienced voice ( all care experienced people) matters and contributes to shaping the future of child state care provision in the UK.A new care experience group hopes to come together as BEVOCAL.CO.UK, an authoritative expert voice.
The time is well here when looked after - ex care- care experienced professionals need to state our opinion-advice-skills- to be taken on board and referred to as an authoritative voice on child care issues and provision , particularly for those living away from their parents or without parents in state care. This would not be a reference point for mere tokenism toward care experience people, as has happened so often in the past- it would be a powerful insightful group. We aim to broker the exchange with Government and policy makers within UK society-at many levels. To effect change-but this time from the group who have encounter living in state care. A voice from the inside-honest-deep-searching authentic views-not held else by virtue of our deep personal experiences. From a group where new pressures are forming to give such a group protected characteristics. There are of course good reasons for this- discrimination-carism etc.
Some of our campaign objectives go back 40 years . Bin bags-we we need immediate protective legislation- kind donations- whilst to be applauded , by charity to 54 Local authorities of some luggage-is not the answer. Robust moving items for all possessions to all in care kids should be automatic- under robust UK legislation-with the next 18 months
Some campaign items go back 50 years- The need to keep siblings together in state care. 4 out of 4 siblings in care are separated still. The need to stop unjustifiable moves- numerous and rapid moves. One night you are in one bed with one family the next in another bed.
Question to Gov- and your local MP's would you do this with your child?
At this time professional care leavers ( and care leavers with a view) are needed by this new group be to a force of change and the right changes. Get in touch. Be one us to move things forward with our voice, for the first time.
Our professional expert view covers far reaching advice, experience and opinion as well as our care experience , stretching as far as law- medicine-youth work - teaching -corporate business-social services-occupational psychology-clinical-child psychology-policy , planning implementers, singers and musicians, local authorities advisers and many many other occupations- and of course home makers and parents.
Will we be squeezed out by third sector wanting to make a good corporate buck $ on the back of kids in care-NO. Will we be side-lined by gov and others and told the issues are in hand and about to be ameliorated-NO. 60 years of endemic and cyclical crass and cruel concerns is way way too much. We are here to shout it out.
BIN BAGS:
rt hon Sir Alec Shelbrook
Dear Peter,
Thank you for your email.
Let me begin by saying that I recognise how traumatic it must be to have to move regularly and have your possessions moved in a bin bag.
I would be happy to write to the relevant Minister to convey these concerns. Should you wish for me to do so, I would be grateful if you would provide your consent for me to share your correspondence with the Minister, in line with data protection regulations. I will then pass their response to you upon receipt.
Best wishes,
Alec
